Why is Rebuilding Together Sacramento needed?
Rebuilding Together Sacramento is responding to a crisis in our region – an aging affordable housing stock and the growing number of people who, because of age, disability, or lack of resources, live in dilapidated or inaccessible housing. The correlation between household income and housing needs is undeniable, especially for lower income homeowners. The stats can’t be ignored:
- Over 76,000 homes in the city and county are substandard
- Falls are the leading cause of death among people 65 and over
- Home repairs and modifications decrease the incidence of home injury by 50%.
Low-income households spend an average of 14% of their income on energy, versus 3.5% in most other households.
